  • Netgear DG834g wireless router in”mixed” mode?

Maybe it is a dumb question from a newbie in ADSL.
    I intend to buy a new ADSL router/modem, a Netgear DG834G wireless router/modem/switch.
I will connect 2 PCs with WinXP SP1 installed.
One of the machines will be very close to the router and could be connected with a short Ethernet cable, eg. to the phisical LAN port #1. The other one is a bit away and I intend to buy a WG311 wireless PCI card for this one configured for another wireless port.
My question is: can I configure the router to work in this “mixed” mode?
    Any answers will be appreciated.

No problem at all Fred. I have two 'clients' set up like this using that hardware, and even with 2 off WG311 cards.

There's no special configuration required for using cable and wifi...just the usual wifi setup.

    HTH.

You may want to ask/search here

Thank you very much. You made me happy

Greebe, thanks. I was just seeking the forum, but couldn't find it, so in desperation I started this thread.

It should work. Small advice: Usually when people say "mixed mode" with Wi-Fi, they mean running both 802.11b and 802.11g clients talking to the WAP.

That's what I thought this would be about.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

            Yes I mean both 802.11b and .g.
and, yes the router most accept desktop PCs besides Laptops too.
Btw, at the present I am connected to my ISP via a wireless network with an ORINOCO 802.11b card, but from NOV 1 changed the ISP to ADSL system.

Another question could be important for me:
Maybe I could reuse my actual wireless card to connect to the wireless router, actually the Netgear DG834G?
Would be great, because I know this card (PCMCIA+PCI adapter), have the right drivers, have an outdoor antenna, I know the MAC address and it is already installed in one of my PC.
The reason why I chaged the ISP is that I have no access to his router to make some port forwarding and it is an unstable system with the accespoint 3 Km away from my antenna.

Have you any opinion about this one?
